As I teach in software development and IT, there are few instances where pictures are actually used.  The one area where I thought they might be useful would be in demonstrating code flow – how code goes from one line to another in a program – usually to illustrate and measure the complexity.  I found the following image to be quite useful in this situation in providing ways in which code flows…
