I teach communications into a post graduate Project Management program. The classes are generally 100% internationals. The first few weeks of semester we focus on academic writing which is a huge challenge usually for the students and then we transition to business writing. There are two main issues here:

a. Moving from the slog of APA and academic writing to a different form of writing

b. The need to write directly

This semester, I am teaching this course to an out of country class all of whom are located in India.

I wanted to find ways to make the content more engaging and to build on my portfolio of content that had the students developing their knowledge through activities instead of just doing presentations and ‘lecturing’ even in this online situation.

I actually put this material together for my class this week and they absolutely loved it!

In doing this, I searched through all the various databases just to have an understanding of what is available but I predominantly used https://openlibrary.ecampusontario.ca. and was able to use the materials contained there to develop the attached materials. As I did this in just a day, I now plan to turn this presentation into an H5P Studio interactive slideshow. I also used Mentimeter ( see attached file) and Unsplash.com for my pictures.

The first exercise  was adapted from https://pressbooks.bccampus.ca/businesscomms/chapter/good-and-bad-news-pre-activity/

The word cloud that resulted from this exercise was done through Mentimenter: https://www.mentimeter.com/s/7ed956a900d0f54e62bff1592182c24a/bfee314d66ba

I also developed a graphic using Canva.com which was an adaptation of https://2012books.lardbucket.org/books/communication-for-business-success-canadian-edition/s09-02-a-planning-checklist-for-busin.html
