I used Google and Unsplash to search for an image to represent time management. I’m currently building an online eLearning module that has a section about how to managing time effectively when learning remotely and I need images to help tell the story. Searching the sites using the terms “multitasking,” and “time management” without any quotes or Boolean operators returned many results with varying levels of representation I was searching for. The results produced many images of clocks, watches, calendars and agendas. I noticed the selection of images changed when using the “AND” vs “OR” operators to include more of one type of image vs the other. Ie: “AND” returned more results showing clocks and watches, and “OR” returned some of the same, but included more images that leaned to represent business leaders and manager-employee type situations.

Unsplash is a known copyright free image site, but Google returns many images that are subject to copyright and are not suitable for reuse. Being aware of these issues, when I used Google I narrowed the search field by using the Tools button and selected the option to only show images that are “labelled for reuse with modification.” This returned a very different set of images representing college classrooms.

I decided to use a copyright free image from Unsplash which shows a woman working with a laptop in a space with many other devices and what could be distractions that could reduce productivity. This will help me illustrate concept of time management in remote learning environments. A nice feature when using Unsplash is the ability to use their citation tool to give proper attribution to the creator.
