To practice my Cornell note taking I watched Wendy Suzuki: The brain-changing benefits of exercise | TED. Since I teach a topic that is very academic, lots of research, lots of writing, and lots of sitting still to a program that is not used to, not inclined to, and does not like sitting still, I was hoping to find something that would draw connections between activity and brain function. Wendy ended her session by having her audience do some brief cardio – it makes me wonder if having my students do 60 seconds of activity at the start of class, or even in the middle, would help them focus better in class (and it should based on the research in this video!).
