CRAAP Test

Resource Title:
First Nations Pedagogy Online

Resource URL:
https://firstnationspedagogy.ca/experiential.html

Currency: The timeliness of the information:
When was the resource published or posted?
Has the resource been revised or updated?
Does your topic require current information?
Are the links functional?

This is a website that is updated on often with new information being added regularly. I checked a few links and they were all working satisfactorily.

Relevance: The importance of the information for your needs
Does the resource relate to your needs?
Who is the intended audience?
Is the information in the resource at an appropriate level for your learners?

My goal this semester is to increase my Indigenous content in my course. The information provided in this site learning centre is divided by audience (eg. secondary school, post secondary). This information will be valuable to me as a college instructor as it meets the intended audience, relates to my needs, and is appropriate for college level learners.

Authority: The source of the information
Who is the creator?
What are their credentials or organizational affiliations?
Are they qualified to write on this topic?

Sylvia Currie is the Senior Manager of Professional Learning at Nicola Valley Institute of Technology ) and June Kaminski is from UBC. She has a BSc, and MSc, and has blood ties to the Ketegaunseebee Anishnabai, Garden River First Nation, in Northern Ontario. I believe these two individuals are qualified to write on this topic.

Accuracy: The reliability and truthfulness of the information
Is the information supported by evidence?
Has the resource been reviewed or refereed?
Are there spelling, grammar, or typographical errors?

This site offers many different articles and teaching practices. The articles that I read are peer reviewed but, I would need to check each on on a one off basis. Site is very professional looking and and there does not appear to be any spelling, grammar, or typographical errors.

Purpose: The reason the information exists
Why does this resource exist? (to inform, teach, sell, entertain, or persuade?)
Is the information fact, opinion, or propaganda?
Are there political, ideological, cultural, religious, institutional, or personal biases?

This is a culturally based website with the goal to inform about teaching using Indigenous methods. It appears to be fact based but does provide individual ideas of teaching methods. Anyone is welcome to post their ideas so I would need to decide what would work for me.

Notes: Are there additional questions or observations you have about this material that affect your decision to use it? (i.e. this is an opinion piece that I will use to demonstrate one side of an argument).
This is a website that I will use to find ways to incorporate Indigenous teaching practices into my classroom

Final Recommendation: Will you use this resource? Why or why not?
I will definitely use this resource, although I will need to adapt some of the material to reflect the content that I am teaching.
