This is a micro lesson on “What is culture?” I think that this would be beneficial as an introductory assignment for students in my Cultural anthropology course. It will give students a base of information to move into our deeper discussions. In the course, we discuss the various definitions and elements that make a culture. One of the important elements is also the discussion on Ethnocentrism and Cultural Relativism. Students are able to access this micro lesson online and work through the activities and mini modules and then complete a final learning activity at the end. This can then be added to my course gradebook if I wanted to.

This is a Cultural Encyclopedia where students can identify a region and get detailed information on the country or region’s culture. Topics like demographics, language, identity, etc are all discussed. Students complete a research project on various regions and cultural elements; this would be a great resource for them to use in the research. It would also be adapted to in-class activities when talking about specific topics. The topics and countries are listed alphabetically and students can search through the index to find their country of interest and then follow and use the links provided.

This video that students can watch would assist with our discussion of the Digital Divide and the many barriers that technology brings throughout the world; including differences in ages, languages, access, etc. This would support learning and provide a base for their reflection assignment in which they are asked to assess these various challenges.

I found Merlot to be the most effective searching platform for me to use. I used culture+experience+definition; culture+language+experience to find my various resources. I liked the organization of Merlot in finding the best variety of resources with diverse uses that I could apply to the classroom.
