GIPHY – music reduces stress

This was my first time using GIPHY.com to create a moving image. I used a moving image of Spongebob snapping his fingers with headphones on enjoying listening to music. I put the caption “Reduce stress & listen to more music!”. I found several articles which supported this statement, for example this article published by Berkeley. I was trying to demonstrate the benefit to our mental health by listening to and being engaged with music. This is extremely important especially in this time of the pandemic and shutdowns.

It was difficult for me to find a moving image which had a sequence which could be edited. I also tried stringing several moving images together, but I could not add words or edit them. The only way I could complete this activity was by using a single GIF and edit. I found this limiting and disappointing as I wanted to add more detail but there were limits to using the GIPHY.com website. It was still a valuable experience and something I think could be fun as a bridge or icebreaker at the beginning of class. It could also be a fun activity for students to create a GIF with relation to the content covered in the course.
