The expertise need to drive a car is the tip of the iceberg with regard to the skills needed. So why not mash-up the metaphors? In kinesiology, preparing an exercise prescription is the tip of the iceberg. The FITT principle makes it look even more simple, especially as an expert – you just roll out the recipe. But dive under the surface and you see that the experience, information and data that guide an exercise prescription is loaded with a complex understanding of information, but also their interconnections. Driving this iceberg is complicated, experts need to be mindful when teaching that this may not be apparent to the novice or student and meaningful and thoughtful scaffolding must be at the forefront of training, preparing and educating learners. The health and safety of others is in their hands, much like the F1 drivers manipulating their complex steering wheels and navigating their cars around the track. From the outside, it looks easy, but from the cockpit, it is a complex marvel of technology and engineering. End of the MMM (multiple metaphor mash-up.)
