I teach a continuing education course on Wound Care for nurses. A common misconception is that dressings need to be changed daily, when in reality it will depend on each individual wound, but most need to be changed every 2-7 days. The analogy I’ve used is a boiling pot of water. Every time you open the lid on the pot, it takes longer for the pot to boil. Same with wounds, every time you take the dressing off, it slows the healing process so it’s best to leave the dressing on as long as possible just like the lid on the boiling pot of water.
