I have taught the subject of Career Management in the past and one of the most commonly misunderstood concepts is how to be authentic in your resume and cover letter.  With the prominence of AI tools, students often copy and paste a job posting into the tool to return a ‘tailored resume and cover letter’.  The issue becomes, they all read the same.  There is virtually no differentiation between the different student resumes and cover letters.  Students rarely take the time to edit and personalize.  While it might check all the boxes on the rubric, I stress the importance of creating something that speaks to their authentic self so get them noticed in the ‘real world’.  Highlighting their own successes and accomplishments for potential employers will help them stand out in a competitive market.
