Thinking in metaphors is a familiar and creative process — it is one of my favourite educational practices, as it allows you to offer information in an alternative manner, and leverages how students might approach a concept.  I still remember one of my professors riding a chair in class, calling it his horse, to demonstrate both metaphor and simile.  That memory has never left me and for the sake of this exercise, I am going to assume that’s because metaphors and similes are powerful teaching tools!
