Non-Newtonian fluid: “is a fluid that does not follow Newton’s law of viscosity, i.e., constant viscosity independent of stress. In non-Newtonian fluids, viscosity can change when under force to either more liquid or more solid.” (Wikipedia, 2020).

I chose the non-Newtonian fluid as my metaphor because of this dynamic characteristic. My idea of teaching is that my role isn’t a static one. It can change based on my students’ needs, the learning environment, and other factors. I may be a guide, showing students one path to an answer. I may be less hands-on, letting students learn and discover on their own. I may be a support system for students who need extra help. My teaching strategies will also change shape as I gain more experience, adapt my skills to novel teaching situations, and continue to be a life-long learner.
