I read patch thirty-three of the patchbook, focusing on desire paths and other course design ideas for humans. One paragraph that resonated me pertained to the planning of a course. As noted by Maureen Glynn: “I might begin my course development work with an instructor by asking them to tell me about the learners they expect to be in their course.” I will intentionally encourage instructors to consider their plans to discern and understand the needs of the learners who arrive in their course.”

Maureen’s words should be understood by all educators. When developing a course, workshop or corporate training venture, we should always work from the end of a course to the beginning. A question to ask oneself is: “If I took this course, what should I know and/or be able to do after I complete? What are the learning outcomes?”
