Three Characteristics of SOTL that stuck with me:

  1. Ongoing, reflective practice with a focus on student learning.  Find a way to build into your semester time to reflect and capture your observations. 
  2. Ask interesting questions.  When you are looking for answers, capture the evidence.  It’s important to have evidence that you can use to figure out your next steps.
  3. Share what you learned – you can start with sharing with colleagues and potentially look at going public with your findings.  The key point here is to continue the conversation and learn from others.

Three Motivators:

  1. Reviewed excitement about teaching and learning.
  2. Increased reflection on teaching and learning among colleagues
  3. Faculty development opportunities.
