As an open education enthusiast, I always like the idea of looking for things that already exist to remix for my new purposes, rather than to always start from scratch. Remixing also speaks to my heart which loves hip hop. Just listen here to hear the awesome stuff that remixing can give us!

So my metaphor is that my teaching and learning is a remix. It’s a mixtape of other people’s ideas for and strategies of how teaching and learning works and happens. And to go even deeper, my teaching philosophy itself is a mixtape of other teaching philosophies and the work of people I admire and want to be more like. So I did choose a photo to represent the metaphor, but then I took it a little further by plopping that image in the background of a padlet and then used that padlet to collect some tidbits from the open work of open educators that I admire and collected them on the padlet. It is not complete, and it never should be, but you can see the beginning of a remix which could (has already?) become its own new teaching philosophy that informs my work, which will then influence how I go own to remix ways of doing things into new learning experience that I help to build in the future. Meta-remixing? And how cool would it be to see a whole bunch of these remixed teaching philosophies from other Extenders! This could be a pretty cool side-activity for Extend. I’d love to see other people try this anyway!
