I love this image of a street sign.  It conveys a bit of the metaphor I have in my mind for teaching.

I see teaching as providing a helping hand and enabling students to learn.  In the role of the enabler, it can be about helping them find direction, filter information to find what is useful, or make them see that something is in fact possible and that they are capable.
