I love the idea of experimenting – trying things to see if things are working, and adapting as necessary. While it’s important that it’s based on prior evidence, we are constantly seeing changes in our demographic and so I think it’s important to take risks, try new things, and ask new questions in order to keep up and keep ahead. I think experimentation and reflection really go hand in hand – taking that moment to question “Did it work?”

The idea of bringing our own academic rigour landed with me as well. I am constantly encouraging students to take ownership of their academic careers, and am often weaving good academic habits into the class experience. Whether that is as basic as study skills, or simply telling them why I’m doing a particular activity.

  • Renewed excitement about teaching and learning, and greater self-awareness.
  • Scholarship opportunities in the form of presentations and publications.
  • Improved outcomes and assessment scores.
