Turnitin Activity and Plagiarism
As a technical support agent for faculty, we often find professors misunderstanding Turnitin and its function. Turnitin does not detect plagiarism but allows the professor to make a more informed decision, based on the analogy that it is a system that compares and matches text from submissions and online repositories. We help with this misunderstanding by educating professors on Turnitin settings and the impact it has on the similarity report percentage (exclude number of words, bibliography, quoted material, etc.) as well as student pedagogy (if similarity report is shown to students and how it impacts the students’ experience).
