Thought vectors and Nuggets activity
1. Explain five strategies that you can use to promote metacognition in learning
- Self-reflection: As a strategy, self-reflection activities allow the students to have a deeper understanding of why they are in the University and pursuing the programme. It is a very important strategy as it allows the students to rekindle the passion behind which they decided to pursue the programme and is a very useful strategy to keep the students focussed on their mission in class and in the university
- Lamplighters: In every online or face to face class session, provide at least 5 minutes for lamplighters to illuminate the minds and hearts of the learners. This is very important strategy for ensuring that the students have a deeper metacognition of the lecture
- Challengers: As a lecturer, i shall be providing questions to the students at the beginning of the class o stimulate their thinking and engage the students on an intellectual discussion and lecture
- Encouraging Creativity and Innovation: Through projects, i shall give the students assignments that will challenge the students to self-reflect and innovate and also craete a design learning experience where at the end of the class, the student has produced an innovative product or solution using the knowledge acquired
- Applied science: Adopting an methodological approach to learning where the students are able to apply the scientific approach to solve problems in industry, community, business and government.
2. Consider your own teaching philosophy. What is your metaphor for teaching and learning?
My metaphor for learning is to encourage students to make a positive impact on their lives, communities, business, industry and country
