This empathy map outlines the transition of my students from face-to-face learning to strictly remote learning. I took a look at my e-mail and correspondence with my colleagues and came up with what I think is a good snapshot into the thoughts and feelings of my students in the first few weeks of this Pandemic. I think the activity is a great reflective practice that all teachers should try each time you teach a new course, a new group or even if a new technology is being used. Thinking of what we do and how we do it from the perspective of our student is very powerful and valuable. When I create online activities I usually try to picture it from the student’s perspective, what will they see, what will they need to do, what will they have gained. Even when I have done this I still find I cannot predict every action so it is important to check-in with students and always be open to their perspective.
