Misunderstood accounting
Students often refer to accounting as a black hole: difficult to examine and study since there is prediction in outcome. This metaphor is partially true if we talk about the universe as a system of positive and negative energy that has to balance in order to exist. Every aspect of “our universe” like households, companies, government have assets (positive money) and debts (negative money) stuff. I found out if I switch students’ perspective from the black board to a universe analogy, they seemed to be more confident, they begin to understand that if there is no balance – maybe there is something else, like an unknown object / star that is affecting the system. And as a universe the accounting is an ongoing expanding system. So there will be always something to add, like digital assets that were just recently introduced in our life.

What an interesting analogy. I had never thought of accounting in this way….it may come in useful when budget time comes….something I usually dread! It does make sense to think of Creation, or the universe…all must be in balance. Thank you for sharing.
