Identify an important  concept that is often misunderstood in your discipline.

Concepts often misunderstood in my discipline by the industry and student community include the difference between travel and tourism. The other concept that is often misunderstood is the concept of Hospitality service and its scope

Explain two impacts/effects of not understanding this concept

The effects of misunderstanding these concepts has reduced the students have a very narrow conceptualization of the industry and the opportunities that emanate from the industry. More often the students end up dropping from the programme and choosing different programmes at first year due o the misconceptions.

Illustrate two ways in which you would make the concept make sense to students

I would make these concepts visible to students through changing teaching approaches and adopting refutation teaching approach. In this approach there would be a combination of both cognitive and motivational factors in change of conceptualization. I would make sure that the students are able to understand the reason why these concepts change. Addiionally, i would add supplementary resources for the sudents to discover by themselves on the concepts and encourage feedback to enable me as an instructor to provide feedback.

Extend your thinking on this misunderstood concept. How would you explain your concept through an analogy?

I would extend their thinking through analogies such as case studies and story telling t ensure that the students understand the concepts
