Is Everyone an Instructional Designer by John Kruithof.

I wouldn’t profess to be an instructional designer per se, however, a quote in John Kruithof’s discussion stood out to me, “Educational technology is a place that can often drive pedagogical change, and it’s strange how often it goes unacknowledged as an accomplice in converting people to better pedagogy.” (Kruithof, 2019).

In working through the Pandemic supporting our Centre for Teaching and Learning, I can say I have personally seen many faculty approach EdTech with skepticism and trepidation, but also a lot of curiosity. This Pandemic has undoubtedly encouraged people to begin thinking outside of their standard practice and considering, sometimes with support and encouragement, how they can enhance their course using technology. I have seen the same in my own practice. When the pandemic began, I was a casual user of some tools in H5P, however since, I have jumped in with two feet expanding my use of the various H5P tools and experimenting with others. I have already seen dividends from this shift in the results and feedback from my students. What I love even more is the very collaborative nature of the H5P Catalogue through eCampusOntario. It is incredible to see the innovative, simple (and other times complex) ways colleagues all over the province have latched onto these tools all with the goal of creating more active and engaging content for our students.
