nuggets: the colleague swap patch
I have read through several patches and this one – on level of writing skills in higher education draw my attention. It totally resonated with my personal experience, and even though students am teaching I in the business program they all struggle with reasoning and argumentative writing which is essential to case analysis . And even though we employ special writing classes that are discussed as option one, the colleague swap technique looks more advantageous, as it could be applied to any subject/course. What I like particularly is this : “In using the Colleague Swap, students earn grade-applicable credit by exchanging writing assignments with three to five of their classmates. Throughout this process, students evaluate, proofread, and critique one another’s work. At the same time that this strategy encourages writing improvement, it also empowers students to work together as active agents of academic enhancement in their own classes”. Using more than one classmates as your proof reader makes this approach more objective, higher in academic standard and efficient. I also liked the idea of having a check list for students work evaluation. Interesting how students feel being empires with such opportunities and tools.
