Patch 27 – Thought Vectors on Healthy Disagreement
I wanted to explore more about Hypothes.is, so I decided to use it as my creative means of exploring and responding to the Patchbook. I chose Patch 27 because I thought that there was some tension between the title–How to Disagree and Not to Die–and the angry foxes, who look like they want to kill each other.
I started exploring the features of Hypothes.is in my response to the paragraph Tip 2: Either/Or Abhor. Overall, I feel like the author was writing to a somewhat limited audience in his examples, but they were good thought pieces for me to consider. I tried to agree or disagree with them actively, as he has suggested in the patch.
My thought “Vector” was then wondering whether our Faculty Learning Hub has resources related to the topics about which he discusses. So, I went back to do a round 2 of annotations, connecting his points to what we have on the Hub. What it did was reveal that there are some related posts, but there are also some gaps in terms of what we do not have to support students with cultural differences in agreeing and disagreeing with each other. This is a point the author does not consider. So, now I am inspired to follow up, and see if we can make something for the Hub to close that gap. Thanks, Vectors of Thought!
