PATCH TWO: ADJUSTING INSTRUCTION DURING A LESSON

Passage:

When you are planning out your learning activities, take a moment to think of some alternatives.

What is the target task?

Is there a ‘pre-requisite’ to that task?

What is an easier version of that task?

What is a harder version of that task?

What is the next task?

Nugget:

I chose this passage because I believe there is an alternative way to prevent/avoid needing to adjust the instruction during a lesson. A lot of the computer classes I teach are for international students, this means that it is very difficult to gauge how good the students are in technology as they come from different countries and backgrounds. To address this issue, I learned from my professor before that requiring the students to undergo a mandatory survey at the start of the class will do wonders for my class delivery. The survey includes the basic information of the students and also questions that would help determine how much they know and how much they still need help with. So, while it is not a perfect solution, I believe this survey allows the instructor to adjust all succeeding lectures in the course in the first two weeks of classes so that there would not be the need to adjust it during a lesson.
