After reading the patchwork articles provided by faculty, I found Patch #28 – GOING BACK TO BASICS
THE IMPORTANCE OF EVALUATING ONLINE RESOURCES FOR YOUR CLASS by Bettina Brockerhoff-Macdonald, something that resonated with me as it demonstrated how some online resources may not be suitable for students.  I ran into this situation before where I was trying to provide a solid, and trustworthy online resource to students regarding performing unit testing.  Of the ones that were available, they had lots of background music / sound that distracted the learner from the objective or were out of date.  As such, I made my own video that was particular and focused for the exact task that the students were learning (and have attached it below as a link).  After this, I have made several other videos on various topics that I’ve shared with students and have received positive feedback.

In conclusion, while online resources may seem to be a great place to obtain information for students, each should be evaluated on their own merit for being: completed, relevant and up-to-date.  Especially in technology courses where the material may change very often and quickly, the key thing here is for instructors to review each resource based on its merits and its trustworthiness before providing for mass consumption by students.
