Sage on Stage to Facilitator of Knowledge
My personal philosophy on teaching is that I am not a sage of the stage, but rather a facilitator on knowledge. Even though I am the subject expect in the topic, I feel that I have learned so many things from students in the pass 13 years of teaching. I feel that my goal towards teaching is not only educating the students on the material, but also fostering critical thinking skills. When I teach a topic, I usually provide my own think aloud of how I remember the material. I also ask students questions like why do you think this is relevant to you and how will you remember this material. I try to approach teaching from a constructivist point of view allowing the students to discover the knowledge in a meaning full way. Sometimes, my students surprise me or even challenge me on a thought process and I am completely open to that.
