When considering my Project Management course for this term from a student perspective, here is a list of WIIFM (What’s in it for me?) brainstormed from a student perspective:

  • Life is a series of projects, learning to manage projects more effectively builds skills useful to life after college in personal and professional situations.
  • All careers include projects of some form; therefore, these are useful skills no matter my chosen field.
  • The final project allows some freedom to choose something that I find interesting/relevant.
  • I get to choose my own group members for the final project.
  • There is a safe environment in the classroom for me to share and discuss.
  • I learn better using learning methods like flipped classrooms, jigsaw learning, and case studies.
  • There are interesting guest speakers with relevant and useful tips for my career.
  • I learn from real-world and current material.
  • I didn’t have to purchase a textbook since there is an Open Education resource included so I appreciate faculty understanding college is expensive already.
  • Faculty also share student services and “life hacks” to help outside of the classroom as well.

Thinking of these reasons is helpful to ensuring content is interesting and relevant to students, thereby increasing attendance, engagement, comprehension and overall enjoyment in the class.
