It’s Alive! Activity: H5P Virtual 360 Tour Project (In Progress)
Through this journey through the technologist module on Ontario Extend, I have truly reflected on my practice and feel confident in this new technological venture with respect to H5P. Not only was I able to utilize this tool to solve some smaller issues that were raised from my empathy map (relating to drug interchangeability and rote memorization), but I quickly discovered that H5P is capable of solving a larger problem that has been plaguing me for years: students complain that truly memorizing drug products and their bio-equivalent interchangeables only comes from actually working in pharmacy and self-selecting these products over and over again. There was a need for more practice, and a way to do this outside of the designated lab time.
Enter: H5P. This is a tool that integrates with our LMS, and is openly accessible, and supported by the College. Further, there are a number of tools within it that can serve multiple functions, but in a way that engages the student in the learning activities. What started as simple Dialogue Cards to aid in memorization of drug names evolved into creating a Virtual 360 Tour of a pharmacy dispensary, such that the students can practice at their whim, and test their knowledge on interchangeables, while also immersing themselves in the pharmacy workflow processes (i.e. entering a prescription using these drug names/information).
The process for this project is not a small one, and this is truly shown through the ideating/prototyping submissions (I will likely clock more than 40+ hours on just the written details of the tool), but can already see what an amazing experience this will be for the students in the end.
Although this project started in response to moving our lab experiences into the virtual realm, I can truly see this tool being utilized even upon return to in-class instruction: it will serve as the practice tool that students have been wanting (as evidenced by the Pain Section of my Empathy map), and will hopefully being the multi-purpose learning tool that I envision it to be when all is said and done.
I have included a link to a video discussing my work thus far, and some further insight as to how this technology will work in our educational setting, and how it serves the overall student learning experience. This will be ready for our Fall 2020 cohort of Pharmacy Technician and Community Pharmacy Assistant students.
