The article that resonated strongly with me was  PATCH TWENTY-THREE: (UN) PREPARED by Sherri Spelic. It was written two and a half years before COVID-19 ever came on the scene to turn our world and lives upside down. However, after I read it, I had to double-check the date it was written because it felt even more relevant now than ever before. Sherri tells her heartfelt story of feeling unprepared, coping with change, and growing through feelings of doubt. I selected this particular nugget because it really made me wish that I had read it in early 2020. During such uncertain and stressful times, I think all educators would have benefitted from reading such a beautiful message filled with so much hope.

I believe my students are going to be alright. Some of them, no, many of them will be fabulous. We are going to make some discoveries this year. We’ll run into some surprises. We’ll reach an impasse or two and get beyond it. I’ll make some mistakes right before their very eyes. Some of the mistakes they’ll notice and others they won’t.

The year won’t be perfect. It will be full of learning and growth and doubt for me and my students. It will be entirely our year. We are prepared and we’re not. It’s on, ready or not.

Sherri’s words felt very poetic to me, so I was immediately inspired to make a video. In my experience, the addition of visuals and music can be very powerful and make meaningful words even more profound.

I decided to attempt to use TikTok to create my video. I’ve never used it before but I had a song in mind and thought it would be a fairly simple platform to create on. In the end, I was wrong on both accounts. 😀 My song of choice was not on there, and it took longer than expected to create. I follow zero people and have zero followers. I suspect this might be my first and last TikTok OR I’ll become a viral sensation overnight – it’s too early to know which way it’s going to go. 😉
