  1. Explain what concept is like driving a car.

Doing broad and narrow transcriptions of words  is like driving a car. There are various related concepts that a student will need to understand in order  to correctly do transcriptions.

  1. Explain the component skills required to master this concept

For instance, to do broad and narrow transcriptions of words, a student needs to understand the idea of phonemes, phones and allophones in relation to particular languages. The student should  also understand the concept of co-articulations, and the phonological processes or phonological rules of particular languages.

  1. Explain four approaches or strategies that you can use to foster mastery learning in your students.

– I will establish priorities among instructional objectives.

– Be flexible in the time frame allocated to correctives in order to encourage student learning. This will especially be in the early units so that learning develops through ordered steps.

– Provide differentiated instructional supports or individualized instruction and support  that fits each student’s needs. This is because students learn at different rates and under different learning conditions.

– Allow multiple attempts on assessments after using instructional supports. This is could be in the form of supplemental resources to students who fail to succeed on assessments on their first attempt, as well as additional attempts on assessments after they (students) have taken additional time to rework through the original or additional resources.
