I’m an Experimenter Activity
The first activity that I chose was dialogue cards using H5P. They turned out okay but I did not think they looked that professional so I would like to revisit these. I think there was too much information for dialogue cards and maybe hotspots would be better.
Secondly, I completed a course outline/syllabus quiz using Quizlet. This I think I can use in my classroom. I find reviewing to syllabus a very boring exercise so having the students complete a quiz and then discuss it in class might be more interesting for them.
Thirdly, I made an introductory video using Screen-o-Matic, that I hoped to post prior to the start of a new semester. This was something that I was not comfortable completing and am not pleased with the results. Instead, I think I will take a page from Julie White’s book and use Voki.
For the mobile device I chose to do an interactive test review using Kahoot on a cell phone. I have trouble using my phone for pretty much everything, so I struggled with this. It is so much easier for me to use my laptop. I think doing a test review in this manner will be fun and beneficial for the students, especially if we discuss the answers.
The three things I learned from this exercise are
- I’ve learned what will work for me and what will not. We all have different teaching styles and even though one instructor might enjoy using a certain technology, it does not mean it is right for everyone.
- To contradict what I said in my first point, I don’t think you need to reinvent the wheel. I learned a great deal from looking at other peoples’ creations and quite frankly, I intend to “borrow” some of their ideas to use with my content
- I need to spend time experimenting with the technology until I am comfortable and can develop more professional looking creations
