Why learn about incontinence today?
I am faculty in a PSW program. I will explore the WIFM activity using one specific class I taught yesterday. I taught about incontinence. Below are some of the WIFM key points:
- Because you care, you came into this program with a caring heart.
- Because the industry is changing and you want to know what is current.
- Because you want to help your patient with Quality of Life, and there is new evidence and strategies that will help them live a better life.
- Because with this knowledge you can prevent skin breakdown and suffering.
- Because you want to be confident when you speak to your patient about incontinence.
- Because you want to know some strategies that will make your interactions with your patient more pleasant regarding incontinence.
- Because you want to help the client preserve dignity, and independence.
- Because you want to know resources available to help your client.
- Because you want to know the terminology associated with incontinence so you can communicate confidently with the IP team.
- Because you can make them feel more comfortable, so you are satisfied with and proud of the job you did a the end of the day.
- To understand what is happening to your patient when they experience incontinence so you can apply an empathetic approach.
- To communicate to the IP team your observations in a professional fashion.
- Because if you know best practice you can be a leader and share best practice with your colleague.
- Because you will know you are doing the best you can do.
