For the Experimenter module, I chose H5P, Videos and Quizzes. Although I have experience creating online quizzes on Canvas (our institutional LMS), H5P provides even more options in terms of question types and other formats for presenting content or creating activities. What I appreciate the most is the ability to embed H5P activities into my LMS pages so that I can lay out a lesson, starting from the list of learning outcomes, a short lecture video followed by a self-diagnostic knowledge-check activity that I created on H5P. Switching to online teaching last year plunged me into the world of educational technology. I am still learning about making lecture videos and teaching effectively online. For the video, I started by imagining myself as a student, and how I would want to the guided through the course. This “backward” thinking paid off. Luckily, I was not bombarded by emails from students asking about how the course work and where to find X, Y and Z. Instead, I had the time and opportunity to answer some real questions about the course content. Finally, creating a quiz on Quizlet was a comfortable choice. However, as I was creating the quiz, I realize its potential as a way for students to take charge of their own learning by collaborating and creating their own quizzes.
