Boldly going where I have not gone before
My comfort zone is currently in the rear-view mirror! Thanks to the Experimenter module, I started learning new tools and techniques that are going to make my day-to-day activities hopefully a bit more exciting.
I really enjoyed using Padlet in previous courses, so took the leap to create a padlet that will be used for a 21-day mindfulness exercise with my students. (I am quite excited about this and about the fact that it will provide me with a tool that I can use to get to know my students better).
I also took the opportunity to create an infographic using Canva. Full disclosure – I have been using Canva for quite some time and create most of my slides through Canva. I’ve started embedding video clips and using it for different applications as well. But I haven’t really explored the world of Infographics. I did have an idea for an Infographic that I wanted to complete, so felt the time was right. I have to admit – creating an infographic is finicky work. But I persevered, and have a new tool that I will use for my next Capstone Preparation class!
Finally – I have been looking for a “little something” to jazz up my Blackboard environment. I have a mix of synchronous and a-synchronous material and provide students with week-by-week content chunks. I’m thinking the addition of an animated version of “Professor Julie” providing a quick overview of expectations for the week may be the trick. I’ve uploaded a quick summary of this experimenter reflection in the same format here as well. I think I may need a professional to create the “real” version of animated me.
I didn’t create any of these activities on a smartphone. My eyes are too old and fingers are too fat for that to work. All in all, this was a great course – and I have so many new tools to explore! Thank you!
