Collaborative Dining Table
The initial move to remote learning in a short period of time was a project without a lot of opportunity to pre-plan the transition. My representation of the dining table includes the collaborators involved at the outset (administration, teaching & learning consultants, program coordinator, and teaching team faculty members). Some of these collaborators were internal to our department and others were external but within the same organization. Notably, the student voice was missing from this project initially given the tight timelines. Since then, the student voice has been helpful in making changes to course content and delivery to better meet their needs. Communication occurred virtually via email, MS Teams, Zoom calls, attending sponsored workshops to help support the transition to remote delivery as well as the use of best practice resources and toolkits. Generally speaking, zoom calls to discuss issues ‘face to face’ and follow-up emails were very helpful to ensure consistent understanding and messaging, with the other methods of communication being helpful ad-ons. We relied on familiar practices and techniques to help reduce the anxiety associated with the transition and notably, many faculty have begun to explore additional tools and techniques as they became more comfortable with the transition.
