-Instructors want to ensure that their students are engaged, understanding course topics and are able to display this understanding. What’s in it for the instructor is obtaining the knowledge/tools necessary to elicit this understanding from their class via Moodle communication activities.

-Knowing the pros and cons of each activity (i.e. Forums to Moodle messaging) ensures that the instructor can effectively manage and gauge student participation in a dynamic context.

-Groups divide a class into manageable pieces and allows for group submissions and marking. This offers a scalable solution for assessments in large classes that have teacher assistants.

-Groupings allows the instructor to shuffle student groups per activity, challenging students to work in varying team settings and to interact with different  personalities.
