CRAAP Test for online simulation
Using https://phet.colorado.edu/ I found this interactive game which helps students understand how to balance chemical equations and I accessed it from University of Colorado at Boulder simulations https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/balancing-chemical-equations/latest/balancing-chemical-equations_en.html
Currency – the game (simulation) is current and the links are functional. Although approaches to balancing equations could change, the concept itself does not require current information or updates.
Relevance – the game strongly relates to my needs. Balancing chemical equations is one of the course’s learning objectives. The intended audience are my students and this topic is something that some students often struggle with. The game is presented at a very appropriate level for my students.
Authority – the game is created by the team at the University of Colorado which is a recognized educational institution.
Accuracy – I played the game and it supports the conventions for balancing chemical equations as outlined in our course text book and other academic chemistry texts. I found no errors in the game. The source has been positively reviewed by Carleton University as well as ECampus Ontario.
Purpose – the source is designed for educational purposes. The information is based on facts supported by extensive academic research. There is no political, ideological, cultural, religious, institutional bias – it is based on the law of conservation of matter.
