Create and activity that builds community in your class
Creating activities that build a community in the classroom is a very positive approach to enhancing a safe learning environment. I teach all science courses in the BScN program and strive to explain difficult concepts through various creative methods. Throughout the semester and on each module, I conduct group presentations, allowing students to learn from each other. They are allowed to choose their own groups, but I assign topics to them and ask them to prepare presentations based on the provided rubric.
Students really enjoy this activity. After each presentation, they have 15 minutes to discuss the steps where they struggled the most and how they plan to improve in their next sessions. They also have the chance to interact with each other, exchanging ideas, which enhances their problem-solving skills and critical thinking. This interactive process creates a positive learning environment for them and promotes their academic success.
