I focused on finding OER resources about Open Education so that I can add some additional activities to the OntarioExtend Curator Module that I will be facilitating.  The purpose of my search was to provide a range of perspectives with regard to the impact of OER/OEP to be shared after the learners in the group share their initial perspective and as further exploration activities.

The first resource I curated, which is also the one linked to in this post, is a podcast from MIT Open CourseWare where two faculty members discuss the benefits of using OER in their teaching practice (minutes 10:00 – 13:00 specifically).  I liked this resource because it’s beneficial to hear faculty talking about their own experience and because the podcast provided an audio format that may be more interesting for some learners than a written resource.  https://chalk-radio.simplecast.com/episodes/the-power-of-oer-with-profs-mary-rowe-and-elizabeth-siler

The second resource I found was a book called “The Power of Open”, published by Creative Commons.  This resource shared a wide range of stories from a wide variety of fields including, but not limited to, education and how licensing work openly was beneficial for their work/practice.  I liked the wide variety of profiles, it added an element of diversity and inclusion to see how many fields and people from all walks of like can benefit from an open licensing framework. http://thepowerofopen.org/

The final resource I curated was from the eCampusOntario Open Library, and is an ebook called “Open Pedagogy Resources”.  This book focuses on demonstrating how to include students in the co-creation of open resources within the curriculum, replacing “disposable assignments” with meaningful work that can live on.  I liked this resource because it demonstrates another very distinct perspective from the ones above, and talks about how to include students in the co-creation process.
