I really appreciated the data provided here on the Ethics of SoTL activities.  The Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS2  ), provides a great resource and clearly structures the parameters around this.

Core principles here include:

  • Respect for Persons
  • Concern for Welfare
  • Justice

I’ve adapted my SoTL plan to increase the iterations to much longer to reduce the power imbalance by returning the data only after the end of the semester.  In addition, I would do this research during the final semester so that there is no risk of perceived power.
