Experimenter – Reflection
I chose to complete the ‘Going Interactive with H5P’, ‘Padlet’, and ‘A Serious Use for Silly Media’ experimenter activities. I previewed this module many weeks ago and wanted to specifically incorporate H5P and Padlet into my course. I really had high hopes (and still do) for integrating H5P into many of the courses I teach, but once I got started, I found it to be a very slow, tedious process. I was able to connect with the OER Design Studio and have assistance from an Instructional Designer which was greatly appreciated.
– My H5P submission is the Practice Quiz that I created on my own https://fanshawec.h5p.com/content/1291417394309423428
– Padlet is an excellent tool especially due to its ease of use https://padlet.com/hawhitelaw/cdt8r8jl2hl6jggt
– The Silly Media one appealed to me because silly media always grabs my attention and I love the idea of incorporating some GIFs or animations into the content to pique interest.
Lessons – I am much more likely to use and reuse a tool that is EASY for everyone involved. With Padlet, the students can jump right in and participate with no learning curve. I also find Jamboard to be extremely easy to use.
As far as the H5P goes, I’m excited for the possibility of collaboration. It wasn’t immediately apparent to me that what we create isn’t automatically available in the eCampus catalogue. We’ve made sure to manually toggle the sharing on now so the materials can be available to other educators.
Using Giphy on my iphone is easy using the app. I think more students than we realize are using a tablet or smartphone more frequently than a computer, so making sure things are mobile-friendly is crucial.
I’ve linked my Screencast where I demonstrate where these activities are integrated into my course homepage & how I used them in lesson plans.
