Any project involves those who are interested in or impacted by it, whether they are organizations or individuals, they are called stakeholders. It won’t be that hard to identify the project stakeholders with a trained team, but paying them the required attention is difficult. Since it is time and cost-consuming to pay attention to each stakeholder, say 50 of them, we need to prioritize the amount of attention based on their interest in the project and its impact on its progress.

Project management teams, once they identify and enlist the stakeholders, they need to determine the engagement strategies needed for each. To this end, the project management team needs to master the Power-Interest Technique by which stakeholders are classified into four groups each with a different strategy (Keep satisfied, Manage closely, Monitor, and Keep informed). Such classification will help develop an appropriate communication plan that optimizes the level of engagement with stakeholders.
