Last year I told my friend Dan Reilly I would help him put up a website. I helped him pick a domain name and register it with Reclaim Hosting (of course) and then requested a bio and some photos of his work.
I’m sure I’ll get that bio soon. 😉

We met in 1988, right after Dan graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts with a degree in Ceramics. He was working for Randy Strong Art Glass in Berkeley when I got a job there. So was Scott O’Dell and the three of us became fast friends. I left for a job in Silicon Valley doing the high tech glass blowing I had trained for, Dan moved around to several local glass shops before buying one in Oakland, and Scott started his own shop in Berkeley.

Dan won the commission for the lamps for the new de Young Museum Cafe in Golden Gate Park. Designed by the popular Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron, they wanted hand blown lamps to make a strong statement. The photo I chose from the internet is from the museum builder’s website. The landing page keeps the most important part but leaves out the bottom half of this well-composed photograph.
