I like to use images when I create promotional materials for my digital skills workshops. Images are eye-catching and engaging. At the college, we have a very diverse population, and I try to select images that reflect that diversity. The goal for this activity was to find a new image to use in my promotional materials I would like to have a collection of CC images showcasing a range of diverse individuals using technology.

I first started with a Google search. I found some wonderful images, but they were on a paid site called Shutterstock. I enabled the CC license search tool and the results, unfortunately, were not as good. I tried a few different searches, “inclusive images of tech” for example, but none really gave me what I was after. I tried a few of the recommended repositories. I love the Gender Spectrum Collection. The images are diverse, gorgeous and hi-res, and the images are reusable under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license. I have selected one image from there entitled A non-binary person using a laptop at work. What I hope to find as repositories like these continue to build their collections, is more diversity in people using tech, especially persons with disabilities and other communities that are not well-represented.
