One thing that has been missing for my ACP students is the casual interactions with other learners in the class to build community and support each other as they are returning to school.

Because we have a rolling enrollment there are always students in the room who are at different places in the course.  They can chat with each other about the struggles and what has been helpful in a way that is hard to replicate coming from an instructor.

By prompting them to use witeboard.com to share their feelings while in the course this social support element might find new life.

Witeboard.com allows learners to post anonymously in any format that they would like; one word, a drawing, or a paragraph for example.  Leaners can comment on the posts of other participants.  There is no need to pay for the service or register with witeboard and it is accessible across platforms – it works well on a phone even.   The content can also be monitored and removed if not appropriate.

This tool will hopefully give the learners in the course an opportunity to see they are not working in isolation and there are a number of other students on a similar path. It can also give them an opportunity to support each other.
