Just Listen
Patch 21: Just listen, suggests to the reader “to blow-up” your plans if your lesson is not working and students are missing the basic concepts. He suggests to start again even if it requires the teacher to change assignments and even mid-terms. The author claims that students who are not grasping the fundamentals may not have the same passion as you to the subject matter. It requires us to take a step back and build some connection to the topic. While I whole heartedly agree with the concept, I think about the practicality of revamping lesson plans mid-stream and changing assessments. I worry that as faculty we are no longer given this luxury and often are encouraged to have similar lesson plans across the program. I want to be flexible and innovative but worry that this is becoming less feasible.
