4 keys to SoTL Framework
- Inquiry: Begin by fostering a culture of inquiry, initiating a process of questioning at the outset and throughout information dissemination (lecture). Encourage active engagement and critical thinking by formulating hypotheses or assumptions to guide the learning journey.
- Implementation: Put your hypotheses into action. This phase involves the practical application of your ideas, actively testing them during the lecture. Continuously ask questions, observe reactions, and take note of the outcomes to inform your teaching approach.
- Assessment: Reflect deeply on the outcomes of your implementation. Evaluate both the positive and negative insights gleaned, considering the perspectives of both the lecturer and students. Assess whether your initial hypotheses were validated and identify areas for improvement.
- Knowledge Sharing: Share your discoveries and insights with the broader scholarly community. Engage in comprehensive dissemination of your findings, contributing to the collective understanding of effective teaching and learning practices. Collaborate with peers to enrich discussions and explore innovative approaches to pedagogy.
My motivation for pursuing SoTL include:
- To build on my lifelong learning skills by learning in the classroom;
- To utilize the Deming approach to teaching : Plan—>Do—>Study—>Act
- You Plan your lecture then Do it (deliver the lecture to students) then you Study the results then you Act to improve of modify the lecture so that it is better the next time
- To share the successes and failures with peers
