Like Driving a Car – Active and Passive Voice
As the way there are steps and procedures in writing a car, and you need to follow them to drive a car, there are component skills required to master turning an active voice into a passive voice. Here is how I assimilate turning an active voice into a passive voice in my classes.
- Choose the sentence you want to turn into a passive voice just as you select a route to drive.
- Identify the subject, verb, and object in the active sentence similar to checking the components of a car before driving.
- Move the object of the sentence to the subject position, much like changing the seating arrangement in a car to get a better view.
- Switch the active voice verb into a passive voice verb by using the formula ‘be + past participle,’ just you shift gears to change the car’s mode.
- Modify the ‘be’ part of the passive voice verb to match the tense of the original active voice verb like adjusting the car’s controls.
- Transform the main verb of the active voice into its past participle form and incorporate it into the ‘be + past participle’ formula, like adapting to different driving conditions.
